A partial register, built in the open
Empty space means not yet researched, not vacant. A bar without an end does not mean the person is still in office. Inferred dates and departures are always labelled.
Chapter 1 · Six eras
One state, six ways of governing it
Military council, people's republic, transitional charter, federal parliament under three prime ministers. Each era rewrote the cabinet; the register keeps every office on one line through its renamings.
01 · 2 Meskerem 1967 – 5 Pagume 1979
Derg

The military council that deposed Emperor Haile Selassie ruled through a Council of Ministers under the Derg chairman.

Chapter 2 · Who held office
Every office, every holder, on one canvas
Each row is an office; renamed ministries stay on one row. Hover a bar to trace that person across offices, click it for their profile and evidence, drag to pan, and use Ctrl/⌘ + scroll or pinch to zoom.
Bars are tenures assembled from cited records; the table view lists every tenure.
- Documented
- Pale end: month or year only
- Dashed: left no later than this
- Dotted: end not established
- Diamond: seen in a dated roster
- R D T †: resigned · dismissed · retired · died (reported)
- ↑ → ⊖: promoted · moved · not reappointed (inferred)
Chapter 3 · Careers that crossed offices
Power moves: the lines between offices
Each line is one person. It runs along an office while they held it and curves to their next post. Near-vertical links mean two posts held at once. The longest careers are labelled; hover or search to follow any line.
People with records in at least 2 offices.
Chapter 4 · The government on any day
Pick a day. See who was in charge.
Slide through fifty years or jump to a cabinet formation. Offices that existed but have no identified holder say so — those gaps are research gaps, not vacancies.
26 Meskerem 2014
36 of 47 single-holder offices that existed on this date have a holder identified in this register.

Chapter 5 · How tenures ended
Resigned, moved, replaced — or simply unknown
A departure is “reported” only when a source says so. Moves and replacements are inferred from the records and labelled as such. Most endings are still unknown: that is the honest state of the public record.
Counts of tenures by type of departure; continuing tenures are excluded.

How the register was built
Every record carries its source; new records needed a verbatim quote that a script found in a cached copy of that source. Existing records were audited against their sources in three passes and 304 corrections were logged. Dates keep the precision the evidence gives — a year is never padded to 1 January.
